Suicide bomber kills 6 in Kabul hospital attack

KABUL: A Taliban suicide bomber targeting NATO medical trainers infiltrated Kabul’s main military hospital on Saturday and blew himself up in a tent full of Afghan medical students eating lunch, killing six and wounding 23.

No foreign medical doctors or nurses were among the dead or wounded, Afghan and NATO officials said.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was targeting foreign trainers and Afghan doctors who work with them. He claimed two bombers took part, but Defense Ministry spokesman Gen. Mohammed Zaher Azimi spokesman said only one attacker was involved and only one blast was heard at the Mohammad Daud Khan military hospital.

23 suicide bombers killed in Afghanistan

Afghan security forces had killed 23 suicide attackers and detained four others in fighting against Taliban insurgents in southern Kandahar province on Saturday 7th May, Interior Ministry spokesman Zamarai Bashari said Sunday.

"Twenty three suicide bombers had been killed and four others made captive by security forces after militants' attacks in Kandahar on Saturday," Bashari told newsmen at a press conference.

He also added that 15 civilians, 12 policemen, two Afghan soldiers and 11 insurgents were injured in the gun battle which lasted for a few hours, he further added.

Failed suicide bomber a 'sleeper' from London

A suicide bomber who was shot dead before he could detonate himself in Afghanistan's defence headquarters had travelled from London, it's believed.

The Times are reporting that Britain's intelligence services have been handed details of the militant who infiltrated the base on Monday.

Sources high up in Afghanistan said the would-be bomber's name and other personal information had been forwarded to London, suggesting that he had been living here in Britain.

A HERO soldier subdued a suspected suicide bomber with his bare hands after a high-speed desert chase.

Unarmed Pte Lee Stephens grabbed the Taliban bomb-making expert from a motorcycle and put him in a headlock.

Afterwards the modest 30-year-old said: “My muckers were getting shot at and I thought ‘I’m not having that’. It’s like the Wild West out here.”

6 French soldiers injured by suicide bomber

PARIS - The French military says six of its soldiers were lightly wounded in Afghanistan when a suicide bomber blew up his car near their transport vehicle on 30th March 2011.

Military spokesman Thierry Burkhard says Wednesday's attack also lightly wounded four Afghans, three of them children. The attacker was driving a car filled with explosives.

The attack took place in the Tagab region of Kapisa province, east of Kabul.

Afghan Police chief killed by suicide bomber

KABUL: A suicide bomber jumped on the police chief of Kunduz Province on Thursday as he patrolled just 150 feet from his headquarters, killing him and two other officers, Afghan officials said. 

The governor of Kunduz, Mohammad Anwar Jigdalak, confirmed the attack, which also wounded the deputy police chief and seven others, including two civilians, in the city of Kunduz, the provincial capital.

Schoolboy suicide bomber kills 27

A suicide bomber in a school uniform has attacked soldiers at a Pakistani army training camp, killing 27 troops and wounding 40 others, officials said.

The attack in the northwest town of Mardan showed that despite years of army operations against their hideouts along Pakistan's border with Afghanistan, Taliban and al-Qaida-linked fighters retain the ability to strike back.

U.S Customs officer killed by suicide bomber

KABUL - A retired U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer was killed and three other U.S. customs workers were wounded in a suicide bombing earlier this week in southern Afghanistan.

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said in a statement released Tuesday in Washington that David Hillman, a retired customs officer who had worked for the U.S. government for 30 years, died in the blast Monday at the Inland Customs Warehouse in Kandahar.

Afghan police said the suicide bomber detonated a cache of explosives inside the city's customs house compound during a visit by NATO forces.

The Taliban in Kandahar are attacking officials and others who support pro-government forces. Earlier this month, a suicide bomber killed the province's deputy governor.

On Wednesday, a roadside bomb killed a senior district police official in the northern Balkh province, provincial police spokesman Sher Jan Durani said. Four bodyguards were also wounded when the bomb struck the vehicle carrying the director of criminal investigations in the province's Chimtal district, Noor Ahmad.
