Ten Taliban militants have given up militancy and surrendered to government in Afghanistan's Kunduz province 250 km north of capital Kabul, an official said Monday.
"A 10-member group of Taliban fighters under command of Mullah Mohammad Din handed over their weapons to authorities in Imam Sahib district and resumed normal life late Sunday," district chief of Imam Sahib, Mohammad Ayub Haqyar told Xinhua.
He said the former militants have handed over a handful of weapons including machine guns and a rocket propelled grenade to security authorities.
According to Haqyar, as many as 133 Taliban fighters have denounced militancy and joined the government in Imam Sahib district over the past three weeks.
More than 500 Taliban fighters have joined the government in Kunduz and the neighboring provinces of Baghlan, Takhar and Samangan over the past three months and reintegrated to the civil society.
